Aziz Ansari’s ‘Good Fortune’ Suspends Production Due to Strike

Aziz Ansari’s “Good Fortune” has been hit with a bit of bad luck.

The Lionsgate film, starring Seth Rogen and Keanu Reeves, has halted production due to the ongoing strike of the Writers Guild of America.

A rep for the film shared with IndieWire that principal photography on ‘Good Fortune’ plans to resume at a later date. The screenplay for ‘Good Fortune’ was completed before the WGA strike, which led to the shelving of ‘Stranger Things’, ‘The Penguin’, ‘The Last of Us’ and other high-profile productions.

‘Good Fortune’ was announced as Ansari’s directorial debut after his production ‘Being Mortal’ fell into limbo in April 2022 due to allegations of sexual misconduct by actor Bill Murray on the set of the Searchlight Pictures film . Murray said the investigation stemmed from a miscommunication. Seth Rogen is also busy starring in ‘Being Mortal’ as well as ‘Good Fortune’.

‘Good Fortune’ was announced in April 2023. While the plot remains under wraps, the production was expected to begin principal photography in Los Angeles in May, with Lionsgate aiming to launch sales at Cannes.

Ansari also produces “Good Fortune” alongside Anthony Katagas (“12 Years a Slave”) and “Master of None” co-creator and showrunner Alan Yang. “Good Fortune” is supervised by Brady Fujikawa and Jon Humphrey. Dan Freedman, Phil Strina, John Biondo and Matt Leonetti also helped negotiate the Lionsgate deal.
