‘Borderlands’ Sets Summer 2024 Release, ‘Dirty Dancing’ Sequel Delayed As Lionsgate Reshuffles Calendar

Lionsgate is making changes to its release schedule, including dating video game feature Borderlands for summer 2024 and pushing dates for Dirty dances sequel and its prequel a Wonder.
Borderlands is now set to bow on August 9, 2024. The film comes from director Eli Roth and has also undergone additional photography from Dead Pool director Tim Miller. Borderlands, based on the popular game franchise, is a huge success for Lionsgate, which has secured big stars to round out the large cast of characters. The call sheet features Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, Jamie Lee Curtis, Ariana Greenblatt, Florian Munteanu, Haley Bennett and Edgar Ramirez. Borderlands launched as a game in 2009 and spawned numerous sequels that have sold a total of 66 million units. Released Gearbox Software and 2K publisher Borderland 3 in 2019.

Marc Forster’s film is a prequel to the 2017 film The wonder and starring Bryce Gheisar, Gillian Anderson and Hellen Mirren. The change isn’t a huge surprise, considering Mirren has another film coming out the same weekend in August, the Bleecker Street biopic Golda.
Meanwhile, director Jonathan Levine Dirty dances the sequel is moving up from its February 9, 2024 date and is slated for a Summer 2025 release. Jennifer Gray will reprise her role in the film, a sequel to the 1987 classic also starring the late Patrick Swayze.
The moves come at tough times for the studios as they face writer duels and actor strikes, which hamper both the production and promotion of the films. So far, studios haven’t revealed any major calendar moves due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, but the release dates are sure to change if the strike continues.
