by Nia DaCosta Hedda Gabler film adaptation Edda Callum Turner is adding.
Turner joins Tessa Thompson, who will play the titular character in Henrik Ibsen’s version of the classic. (DaCosta and Thompson previously worked together on the director’s feature debut, Small woods.) Eve Hewson will also star in the project.
DaCosta wrote and will direct the film which comes from MGM’s Orion label and Plan B, who collaborated on Sarah Polley’s Oscar-winning drama Women who speak. DaCosta and Gabrielle Nadig will produce, alongside Thompson, who produces via her Viva Maude label. The executive producers are Kishori Rajan for Viva Maude and Michael Constable.
Ibsen’s original work centers on a recently married woman, the daughter of a general, who is disillusioned with both her life and her marriage.
Turner, represented by WME and Britain’s Curtis Brown, is ready for Apple’s impending WWII Masters of the Air and sports drama The boys on the boat. It was last seen in theaters with Fantastic Beasts: Dumbledore’s Secrets.
