Jack Quaid, one of the stars of Amazon The boyshe signed for topline Companya sci-fi thriller from the team behind last year’s horror hit Barbarian.

Drew Hancock wrote the original screenplay and is making his directorial debut with the film, with many plot points being kept under wraps.

Despite the secretive nature of the project, the pedigree is remarkable. Zach Cregger, who wrote and directed Barbarianis producing the feature alongside BoulderLight Pictures’ Raphael Margules and JD Lifshitz, some of the biggest hustlers in town, and Vertigo’s horror boss Roy Lee.

Company was won by New Line in a horror film auction earlier this year. It was originally intended to serve as a sequel to BoulderLight and Cregger Barbarian before the director changed tracks to focus on his script, Weapons, also now casting and at New Line. But the team helped Company land not only a home, but greenlighted the start of production, backing Hancock to make his directorial debut.

Quaid is having a geeky moment this week. The actor is one of the voice actresses in the popular Paramount+ animated series Star Trek: Lower Decks and protagonist of another success Star Trek show, Strange new worlds. In the trailer for the series, it was revealed that he would be moving his character Ensign Boimler into the realm of live-action when the new season kicks off on June 17.

Quaid also starred in Paramount’s 2002 reboot He shouted alongside legacy cast members Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and David Arquette, and later appearing as part of Christopher Nolan’s all-star cast Oppenheimer, which includes Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon and Emily Blunt. Oppenheimer will be released in theaters on July 21.
