Jodie Comer wins Tony for ‘Prima Facie’: ‘That was my greatest honor’

Jodie Comer now has a Tony to add to her awards rack.

The actress took home the lead actress in a comedy Tony for ‘Prima Facie’.

“Prima Facie” is a 100-minute play by Suzie Miller that follows a young lawyer, Tessa, who often represents men accused of rape. Placing her trust in the court, Tessa isn’t conflicted about the predators she defends…until she’s raped herself and must come to terms with the ways the justice system is routinely broken for survivors of rape. sexual.

“For any person who feels represented by Tessa, this has been my greatest honor,” Comer said in his acceptance speech. “And it continues to be! Three weeks left!”

In their review, Noted variety, “I have to recommend it, even if I don’t love it: it’s not fun or entertaining or challenging in the way theater can be. But this show, starring a popular TV actress, will play her to make a dent in the injustice of women who are left voiceless and powerless after being sexually assaulted. And for that, ‘Prima Facie’ deserves high praise, even adulation.

Jodie Comer Interrupts Mid-Performance Of Broadway’s ‘Prima Facie’ As She Struggles To Breathe During NYC Air Crisis

Comer, of course, is best known for her starring role as Villanelle in “Killing Eve,” a role that earned her an Emmy and a British Academy Television Award. Earlier this week, Comer made headlines after interrupting a performance of “Prima Facie” minutes into the one-act, noting that he couldn’t breathe due to poor air quality in New York. due to smoke from Canadian wildfires.

“Prima Facie,” directed by Justin Martin, will close on Broadway July 2.
