Kim Cattrall Probably Won’t Return to ‘And Just Like That’ After Season 2 Cameo: ‘How Far Will I Go’

And just like that, Kim Cattrall put an expiration date on Samantha.

The ‘Sex and the City’ icon has confirmed that her next cameo in the revival series ‘And Just Like That’ will be her last appearance as public relations expert Samantha Jones.

“That’s as far as I’m going to go,” said Cattrall Today. “It felt like stepping back in time and having a wonderful afternoon. And then a great martini!”

Cattrall added, though, “I don’t think I’ll ever say goodbye to Samantha. She is like many other characters I’ve played over the years. I get very emotionally attached and protective of my characters. She has given me so much and I appreciate her so much.

Cattrall publicly walked away from the role of Samantha in 2016 after continuing the character for two ‘Sex and the City’ films. Cattrall will return as Samantha for the season 2 finale of “And Just Like That,” with Samantha talking to Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) on the phone. Costume designer Patricia Field also returned to design Cattrall for the scene; Field collaborates again with Cattrall on the Netflix series “Glamorous” and on Darren Star’s “Emily in Paris”.

“One of the things I always wanted was to have Pat Field model me, which she does for ‘Glamorous,’ too,” said Cattrall. “I said, ‘I’m coming back.’ He said: ‘People will be so happy! Make people happy. You’re funny!'”

The scene in question will feature a “cool crazy suit” by Bergdorf Goodman, as Cattrall teased.

“And Just Like That” showrunner Michael Patrick King previously said in February 2022 that Cattrall would never be considered to appear in season one.

“Kim was never thought to be on ‘And Just Like That’ because she said what she said… You have to look at the reality of something: you can literally Not have an actress play a part,” King said at the time. “Thinking magically, it’s great to have Samantha (but) I have no realistic expectation that Kim Cattrall will ever appear again.”

Cattrall recently shared that she received a call from the “head of HBO” asking her to consider reprising her role.

“It’s very interesting to get a call from the head of HBO saying, ‘What can we do?’ And I said, ‘Hmm…'” said Cattrall on “The sight.” “Let me get creative, and one of those things was having Pat Field back because I just thought if I was to come back I had to come back with that Samantha style, I had to push it and we did.”
