Olivia Colman will join ‘Paddington 3’ (exclusive)

Paddington in Peruthe third film of the Paddington franchise, has added a newcomer to its cast. Academy Award winner Olivia Colman is in talks to play a role in StudioCanal’s film about the beloved bear.

Ben Whishaw has long voiced the titular bear, who in previous films has been seen going on adventures with the Brown family. Exact plot details are being kept under wraps, but the film will see Paddington travel from his home in London to his birthplace in ‘darkest Peru’.

Sources note that Colman’s character will be running a rest home for bears in Peru. (Fans of the Paddington franchise will remember that Paddington’s Aunt Lucy lives in The Home for Retired Bears.)

Paddington in Peru will be the first feature film from Dougal Wilson, the award-winning commercial and music video director. Heyday and StudioCanal are producing the feature film. Shooting will take place in London and Peru.

StudioCanal, which fully supports the film, will be released Paddington in Peru in the UK, France, Germany, Benelux, Australia/New Zealand and Poland. Sony Pictures holds rights for the rest of the world, excluding Russia, China and Japan.

The first two films have a 97% and 99% fresh rating respectively on Rotten Tomatoes, and have also achieved cult status. Colman earned an Oscar for her role in Yorgos Lanthimos’ film The Favouriteand has since been nominated twice in 2021 for The father and 2022 for The lost daughter.

The actress ping pongs between other commercials and prestigious projects, having recently appeared in the hit Netflix series Heartthrob and the recent Marvel entry Secret invasionas well as Sam Mendes’ Empire of light and the BBC great expectations. Next, he will appear alongside Timothee Chalamet in the Willy Wonka origin story Wonka AND StudioCanal features Evil little letters.
