Phoebe Waller-Bridge is opening up about her decision to leave Amazon Mr and Mrs Smith series.
The English actress and screenwriter recently sat down with Vanity Fair where she discussed her overall eight-figure deal with Amazon, why she’s been out since Mr and Mrs Smith series and whether he will direct the next James Bond film.
Even though the multi-hyphenate closed the door to his successful streaming show Lots of fleas with its second and final season in 2019, there was the potential to see a new project out of its multi-year deal with Amazon in a Mr and Mrs Smith TV reboot in which he was supposed to appear alongside actor and rapper Donald Glover.

It was announced in September 2021 that Waller-Bridge was exiting the direct-to-series adaptation of the Brad Pitt-Angelina Jolie film with sources stating that Waller-Bridge had a different creative vision for the series than Glover.
When opening up about leaving the series, Waller-Bridge said she “really cared” about the project.
“I worked on that show for six months completely in my heart and mind and I really, still do,” Waller-Bridge said. “And I know it will be brilliant. But sometimes it’s about knowing when to leave the party. You don’t want to get in the way of a viewing. Creative collaboration is like a marriage, and some marriages just don’t work out.”
However, the actress also feels like she wants to do right by Amazon studios after they, in her words, “put her a bets.” Describing herself as “creatively controlling,” Waller-Bridge said Amazon understands how she’s doing, explaining, “They’ve been with me through this process where I’m like, ‘I’m getting there, but I want it to be fucking Amazing.'”
As for the rumors that Waller-Bridge is directing the next James Bond movie after directing just a single music video, he laughed. “My mom sent me that voice too,” Waller-Bridge said with a coy laugh. “So the obvious jump is James Bond.”
Later, Waller-Bridge also shared surprising advice when asked if she could say anything to her 20-year-old self. “You are making a fool of me? I would ask you to tell me everything! Remind me, remind me. And she was like, ‘Fuck everybody. Go out and burn the shit’,” she said.
