Pop Culture Fest Lucca Comics and Games presents the 2023 poster

Lucca Comics & Games, Europe’s number one comic and video game convention, kicked off the 2023 season on Thursday with the launch of the festival poster and trailer for this year’s event. The 57th Lucca Film Festival will be held in the picturesque medieval Italian city from November 1st to 5th.

This 2023 festival theme, Together, and the additions of rainbow colors to the Lucca logo underscore the organizers’ focus on diversity and inclusion for this year’s edition.

The 2023 poster was designed by Israeli artists and twin brothers, cartoonist Asaf Hanuka and The New Yorker illustrator Tomer Hanuka. The brothers developed the concept art for Air Folman’s 2008 Academy Award-nominated animated documentary Waltz with Bashirand have collaborated together on several graphic novels, including that of Boaz Lavie The divine.

Their Lucca poster design blends Western and Eastern traditions, with an oriental dragon descending from the sky above the historic city of Lucca.

“The image captures the essence of Together in a unique and evocative way,” said Lucca festival director Emanuele Vietina. “The characters depicted represent the multiple tribes that animate the vast community of the festival. By doing things together we emerge transformed and the stories, once told and then shared, begin to take on a life of their own. The crux of the matter is that alone we can go faster, but together we will go further.”

This year’s event will mark the 30th anniversary of Lucca Games, the games section of the festival. Joe Manganiello, a regular at the Lucca festival, will return this year as international ambassador of Lucca Games. The creator of Wizards of the Coast, Peter Adkison, will also be present to present the documentary by Kelley Slagle and Brian Stillman in its Italian premiere Turn on the spark. Other VIP attendees this year include The boys writer Garth Ennis, manga artist Naoki Urasawa, American graphic novelist Craig Thompson (Covers, Habibi), Marvel cartoonist Jim Lee and Rand Miller, co-creator of the iconic video game Myst.
