Rachel Sennott and Ayo Edebiri Start a High School Fight Club to Meet the Cheerleaders in ‘Bottoms’ Trailer

Rachel Sennott and Ayo Edebiri are literally fighting for a chance at high school romance in first full trailer for upcoming comedy Funds.

Director Emma Seligman’s feature film focuses on PJ (Sennott) and Josie (Edebiri), who start a fight club in an unconventional attempt to lose their virginity to two popular cheerleaders. The MGM film is set to hit theaters on August 25 after premiering at South by Southwest in March, and its cast includes Kaia Gerber, Havana Rose Liu, Nicholas Galitzine, Dagmara Domińczyk and Marshawn Lynch.

“We teach a group of girls how to defend themselves,” Sennott explains to Edebiri in the trailer. “We are grateful. Adrenaline flows. Next thing you know, Isabel and Brittany are kissing us on the mouth!

Later in the footage, Edebiri offers words of praise for their schoolmates. “They deserve to try and show everyone how cool they are,” she says.

Seligman directs from a script he co-wrote with Sennott, con Funds following the couple’s collaboration in 2020 Child Shiva. The executive producers are Seligman, Sennott and B. Ted Deiker, while Elizabeth Banks, Max Handelman and Alison Small are the producers.

Sennott appeared in last year’s one Bodies Bodies Bodies and recurs on HBO The idol. The stars are written on FX The bear and voices a role Big mouth.

In his review for The Hollywood Reportercritic Lovia Gyarkye wrote it Funds “silly with her raunchy play and rugged offensiveness, but she falls short of the revealing vulnerability that would make her as subversive as she wants to be.”
