Tati Gabrielle in Final Talks to Play Jade in ‘Mortal Kombat 2’ (Exclusive)

Tati Gabrielle, known for her work on the Netflix sensation You as well as Chilling Adventures of Sabrinais in final talks to join the cast of New Line’s 2021 sequel Mortal combat.

Simon McQuoid, who directed the previous film based on the video game franchise, is back behind the joystick for the second installment, with Jeremy Slater writing the script for the sequel.

The sequel continues the story of a ragtag group of fighters, versed in the ways of martial arts, who defend our reality which is known in Earthrealm against the Outworld. The first film, released during the pandemic in both theaters and on HBO Max, remains one of the streamer’s biggest hits to date.

Karl Urban is already on board to play fan-favorite character Johnny Cage, an action movie star who enters the Mortal Kombat tournament to prove to the naysayers that he can pull his own stunts.

Gabrielle will play Jade, a heroine first seen in Mortal Combat II, the second installment in the video game series that propelled the title into the 90s pop culture mainstream. Jade is an assassin friend and bodyguard of the character known as Princess Kitana.

Some of the cast from the first film are also expected to return, such as Jessica McNamee and Josh Lawson.

Producers are James Wan and Michael Clear of Atomic Monster and Todd Garner of Broken Road Productions. McQuoid and E. Bennett Walsh are also producing.

Gabrielle has seen her character become a significant player over the course of several seasons of You, Netflix’s stalker show which is now in its fourth season. She first garnered notices for his work on The CW The 100but she got a following for playing Prudence Night Sabrina. She also voiced Willow on Disney’s The Owl House. In feature films, she has appeared alongside Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg at Sony Unexplored.
