Tom Holland: Promoting ‘The Crowded Room’ was difficult after being ‘horribly reviewed’
Tom Holland is honest about the “resilience” it takes to complete a press tour after the poorly reviewed series “The Crowded Room.”
The ‘Spider-Man’ star plays an allegedly mentally ill killer on the Apple TV+ show. Holland compared promoting ‘The Crowded Room’ to being a fan of English football club Tottenham Hotspur, who famously never won the Premier League.
“I think being a Tottenham fan is a bit like being in ‘The Crowded Room.’ He taught me resilience,” Holland told Unilad in the video below. Tottenham have never won anything and backing them up is incredibly difficult.
Holland continued, “It’s no secret that my show has been reviewed so horribly, but I’m here today to promote the show and I’m still here. I am very resistant. It is of good quality.”
Holland previously called “The Crowded Room” negative reviews a “kick in the teeth” for the series he executive produces.
“Rolling around, looking at the reviews, and then all of a sudden I was like, ‘Wow. This is a bad review.’ Sometimes there’s a redeeming quality in there. There was nothing,” Holland said, adding, “There will be good ones. It will be. I try to have a healthy view of all that kind of stuff and respect everyone’s opinion.”
The actor previously clarified his earlier statements about taking a year off from acting after rumors swirled about the breakup caused by ‘The Crowded Room’ flop.
“It’s so funny. Of course ‘The Crowded Room’ came out. We didn’t get very favorable reviews. So the news in the press was that I took a break this year because of the reviews,” Holland said. “But I have eight months in my year off. I was relaxing at home in London, going to Grands Prix, playing golf.”
Holland especially thanked the viewers of the show, which starred Amanda Seyfried.
“I’d like to say a huge thank you to my fans and the people who watched the show because we’re 94% on Rotten Tomatoes,” Holland said. “I’m so grateful to have a wonderful community of people who support me and are there for me, so I’m honored and really excited for the rest of the show to come out.”
