Sony studio head Tom Rothman made a rare stop down the press line at the May 30 premiere of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Versewhere he said The Hollywood Reporter that when it comes to the WGA, he’s: “Always hopeful, and that’s all you can do is hope for the best and plan for the worst. Of course everyone would like to see a solution, it would be the best for all involved.”
Rothman said Sony’s productions haven’t been derailed, although development has, and when it comes to other corporations, like SAG, he has similar hope it will sort itself out before a strike strikes. “I’m always confident. In my job you have to be confident,” he added, and when asked to think about burning issues like AI, he gasped, saying, “I’m not smart enough to know that.”
Another thing Rothman is hoping for: Getting Quentin Tarantino’s latest (and reportedly definitive) movie The film criticafter Tarantino told Deadline in Cannes that he’ll likely partner with Sony on the film “because they’re the latest game in town that’s absolutely, totally, committed to the cinematic experience.”
When asked about his response, Rothman remarked, “I read that” before adding, “I hope so.”
